Staying on Track for the New Year

Now that the New Year has started, congratulations on your first two months!

How did you do? Take time to acknowledge your commitment to your New Year’s “solutions.” Also take inventory of areas that need improvement because remember, improvement is easier to sustain than perfection!

Many of you set goals to get healthier and lose weight. This week, I’d like to explore some of our limiting beliefs.

Limiting beliefs are damaging and counterproductive, like driving with your emergency brake on.

Some limiting beliefs regarding slimming down are: Everyone in my family is big boned so I could never be healthy and slim, I have to eat so I don’t fall apart, if I don’t eat I am going to die. The truth of the matter is that none of those things are true but the power of a belief like that can sabotage any efforts towards a healthy life style. What are some of your disempowering thoughts about food?

Here are some empowering facts to replace your limiting beliefs about food.

The right food provides your body with the energy it needs to perform all of its processes and functions. The right nourishment fuels the body, renews our cells and supplies us with vitality. We are what we eat.  The more living foods we eat the more energy our bodies will have.  The Standard American Diet (SAD), consists of mostly cooked and processed foods and it produces sluggish and less healthy cells. I lead a Raw Living Foods Lifestyle for over a decade now and I have been able to eat more than ever before and weigh less.  Additionally, I have never been healthier.

As a life coach, time and time again I hear from too many people who are fed up, frustrated and just plain discouraged about their ability manifest what they want in life. To lose weight, attract the perfect mate, have abundant health, a better job or career, have financial freedom. We are masters of our life! What is your expectation? Decide what the New Year is going to bring you, act as though it is already done. Expect the best from life.

Next blog post, I will talk about ancient recipe, rescue for allergy sufferers.

Change your mind. Change your life!

New Year’s Evolution

Most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions by the third week of January.  In the blink of an eye, the year is over and you have not achieved anything you had set out for the year. This year I propose we all start the New Year in a new way.

Instead of setting a resolution this January, I suggest creating a New Year’s Solution. The word resolution brings pressure and eventually guilt but creating a “solution” helps us get closer to our goals.  Essentially, we are creating a life friendly plan for success. We know there are going to be challenges and pit falls so we plan ahead to get past them.  This new outlook identifies you as a problem solver in your own life. No matter what, you are empowered with the answer.

Here is a recipe that has helped me follow through on new goals or solutions.   All changes need a decision and all important decision must be made on paper, so get a paper and a pen to write your solutions down.

Identify the area in which you want to make a shift in your life, for example, shedding those extra pounds.  Then list actions or solutions that will bring you closer to your goal.

  • Make a list of things that will motivate you when you are losing interest: a song that pumps you up, an inspirational book or a call to your best friend who achieved a similar goal.  When you feel discouraged, turn to this list.
  • Describe your solutions in specific terms and use positive language. Instead of “I don’t want to be lazy,” opt for “I am willing to exercise regularly” or “I will cut down on my television watching.” Using active language makes for a more proactive person.
  • Break down large goals into smaller more attainable ones, this way you have the opportunity to celebrate success more often. Instead of, “I want to lose 50 pounds,” try, “I intend to lose 1 pound a week for a year by exercising 25 minutes a day.”
  • Measure your progress regularly, at least once a month. If you get off track, refocus and reapply your solutions.

I wish you vibrant health, happiness and love. Expect the best life has to offer.

Safe Ways to Detox

Safe Ways to Detox

Before you think about detoxify your body you need to identify where and how you get exposed to various toxins in the body. Toxins can easily be in the air we breathe, the water we drink, chemical preservatives in food, chemicals found in personal care items, dry cleaning residues, household cleansing agents, herbicides and pesticides.

Toxins are present in some over the counter drugs and second hand smoke. Even negative thoughts like anger and fear can produce toxins in the body. If you identify with one or more items on listed, you might want to look into engaging in a detoxification program.

Before you do that, let me point out to you these important channels of elimination. The body has seven channels of elimination:

  • The skin is the largest organ and an important way for the body to rid itself of waste (sweating)
  • The liver has 260 known functions.  It’s one of the largest and busiest internal organs and it’s essential to filtering toxins especially alcohol.
  • The lungs take in oxygen and discharges carbon dioxide
  • The kidneys regulate water and pH levels. It also excretes acid wastes
  • The lymphatic system is like the body’s garbage collector and it contributes greatly to a strong immune system resulting to health in the body.
  • The colon is often over looked and neglected elimination organ. Before considering a detox program make sure to open this channel. If blocked, toxins can be reabsorbed into the bloodstream causing toxemia.
  • The blood is also a channel of elimination

Some signs that you may need to detox yourself are:

  • Constant flatulence
  • Acne
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Dark color urine
  • Fatigue
  • Irritability
  • Chronic congestion
  • Abnormally bad breath
  • Persistent body odor
  • Allergies
  • Constipation
  • Constant headaches
  • Weight gain

Taking the time to detoxifying can be very rewarding. The results could be surprising, ranging from mental clarity, weight loss, vitality, clear skin, improved immune system and better sleep.

Always check with your health care professional before engaging in anything new but once you do, here is a simple at home detox you can try.

The first step is to stop taking in toxins. Remove the ones you can identify. And get as much rest as possible. The body repairs while you sleep. Most importantly try to reduce your stress levels as much as possible.

Avoid these items the following food items: processed and refine foods, dairy, meats and poultry, refined sugar, coffee/caffeine, alcohol and soft drinks.

Incorporate these items: super hydrate with water, fruits especially water melon, vegetables, dark green leafy vegetables, fiber, probiotic, exercise, perhaps meditation and you can use this inexpensive way to balance the body’s pH by adding half a lime or lemon to the water you drink throughout the day.

Personally, I always start my detox with a colonic. According to Dr. Jensen, both death and health start in the colon. Next week we will cover colon hydrotherapy and how they play an integral role in detoxification.

Cleanse vs Detox

Four times a year, with the change of seasons we need to set up a schedule to cleanse or detox the body. Periodically we want to be on time out, meaning to stop putting the toxins that overwhelm the body, and next to rest our digestive system by eating light once a week or monthly; find out the approach that is right for you.

To find out if you need a detox or cleanse, here are some signs to assess your needs.

Please check which one applies to you.

  • Bad breath
  • Constipation
  • Cold
  • Allergies
  • Headache
  • Low energy
  • Lack of vitality
  • Tired or need more sleep
  • PMS
  • Candida
  • Skin problem
  • Ache & Pain
  • Fowl gas or stool

There are many benefits to detoxification. Some of them are

  • Increased energy
  • Overall feeling of well-being
  • Weight loss
  • Improved skin complexion

The human body has the potential to use its own self cleansing ability, however when it is overwhelmed with toxins it has no choice but to store it in the fats in the body.  In order to effectively detoxify the body we need to stop putting the toxins that burdens the body, and keeps it from doing its job.

Do we ever think of toxics that are in our environment?

Some examples of everyday toxins are

  • Cleansing agent

  • Prescription drugs (including over the counter medications)
  • Process sugar
  • Stress
  • Alcohol

Most people experience signs of constipation as part of toxic overload to the Standard American Diet.

Here are some tips to detox:

  • Enjoy water instead of soda pops
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetables (organically grown when possible)
  • Air-filtering plants for the house and office
  • Non toxic personal care and household products

Decrease or eliminate

  • Process sugars
  • Stress
  • Refined flour products
  • Alcohol
  • Diary products
  • Food preservative and additives
  • Saturated and hydrogenated fats
  • Fried foods
  • Meat containing hormones
  • Nicotine

Detox actions

  • Colon Hydrotherapy
  • Getting to bed early
  • Yoga practice, meditation
  • Improved digestion
  • Rebounding
  • Skin brushing
  • Exercise regularly
  • Eat a balanced meal daily loaded with fruits and vegetables

There’s still time to detox before this season ends. If you are pregnant, nursing or under medical care, consult your physician.

I wish you a safe fun filled day, most of all I wish you Health it is our only Wealth.
